350.org was founded in 2008 by U.S. author and climate activist Bill McKibben, who wrote one of the first books on global warming for the general public “The End of Nature,” and a team of students, including May Boeve, current Executive Director of the organization. The name, 350.org, was chosen to communicate an important quantitative target. 350 is the safe level of atmospheric CO2 in parts per million, according to climate scientists. Through 350.org, the team expanded to include young people from all over the world.
The 350.org network is currently working on the 3 demands of the fossil free campaign :
A fast and just transition to 100% renewable energy for all
No new fossil fuel projects anywhere
Not a penny more for dirty energy
350 Taiwan is the affiliated group of 350.org in Taiwan. Like the global partners, 350 Taiwan connects both online and offline climate actions. The organization is formed on the bases to bring the topic of divestment into Taiwan. The aim is to have Taiwan join the global movement to move fundings away from fossil fuels to reduce more emission to solve the climate crisis.
