At present, non-electronic smart textile materials for clothing which have undergone higher degree of commercialization include Temperature. Adaptive material and Moisture Adaptive materials. Moisture Adaptive smart textile materials. can dynamically adjust corresponding functions according to changes in body and humidity in the environment to increase the level of comfort and safety of the wearer in specific usage situations. Moisture Adaptive smart textile materials mostly consist of fiber products, where Japan Mitsubishi Corporation, Teijin Limited and Taiwan Fu Hsun Fiber Industries Co., Ltd. are the representative manufacturers for this type of materials.

VENTCoolTM is a Moisture Adaptive fiber launched by Mitsubishi Corporation, which is made by spinning diacetate (strongly hydrophilic) and triacetate (weakly hydrophilic) in a side-by-side bicomponent structure. Under dry conditions, the natural curl of the fiber can reduce the size of pores in fabric and inhibit breathability. When the fiber becomes wet due to sweat, it is temporarily elongated to increase breathability ; This material has been sold in the market for over 10 years, and is, at present, mainly used in skin tight layers of products manufactured by underwear brands (e.g., Wacoal, B.V.D., etc.).

Teijin Limited: Fibaliver® Fiber

Fibaliver® Fiber is another type of Moisture Adaptive fiber launched by Teijin Limited, which is made using the nylon-and-polyester bi-component structure, instead of one-component fiber structure. Fibaliver® Fiber also experiences length differences when it comes into contact with moisture, creating the ability to adjust the size of tissue pores. This material was previously supplied to sports brand Nike and was used in the Nike Aeroreact sportswear series.

Moisture Adaptive Smart Textile Materials Launched by Fu Hsun Fiber Industries Co., Ltd. In collaboration with Taiwan Textile Research Institute

Fu Hsun Fiber Industries Co., Ltd. launched a Moisture Adaptive smart fabric product in collaboration with Taiwan Textile Research Institute. The starting materials for this Moisture Adaptive smart material are cellulose and eco-friendly resins. In textile applications, this performance fabric undergoes laser cutting after coating and processing, and can dynamically adjust fiber length and textile porosity according to body sweat and humidity in the environment. Such dynamic adjustment function is less affected by changes in ambient temperature and skin surface temperature, and can increase the level of comfort experienced by the wearer in different scenarios.

VENTCoolTM是日本三菱公司所推出的感濕型纖維,其將二醋酸酯(強親水性)和三醋酸酯(弱親水性)以side by side形式的雙組份結構紡絲製成。在乾燥條件下,纖維天然捲曲可使織物孔洞變小而抑制透氣性;當纖維因汗水而變濕時,會暫時拉長以提高透氣性。此材料已在市場上行銷十年以上,目前主要應用於內衣服飾品牌(如:華歌爾、B.V.D.等)的貼身層。


Fibaliver®纖維是日本帝人公司所推出的另一項感濕型纖維,其採用耐隆及聚酯雙組份纖維改質(side by side)而非單組份纖維結構,Fibaliver®纖維遇到水分後同樣會產生長度差異,創造出調節組織孔洞大小的功能。此材料曾提供予運動品牌Nike應用於Nike Aeroreact運動服飾系列上。
